The local Red Cross will honor 15 people at an event in November for "heroic and selfless acts."

Honorees include a 12-year-old boy, police officers, firefighters, a doctor and others who did good deeds.

The American Red Cross South Central Pennsylvania Chapter will recognize them at the Spirit of the Hero Breakfast at the Wyndham Garden York Hotel on Nov. 19. The event honors people from Adams, Franklin, Fulton and York counties.

Dr. Sonam Ruit, Martin Foot and Ankle

Category: Medical

Ruit was heartbroken by news of the massive earthquake in Nepal, his homeland. His family had survived, but he wanted to do what he could to help people who had lost everything. He collected donations of medical and surgical supplies from area hospitals, and he collected donations of money. He paid to ship items to Nepal. He then traveled to the country, saw patients and performed surgeries. The money he raised was used to help build homes, and buy clothing and school supplies.
